Please Read: Swim Team Meet Info and Dryland Info

Hello Fall Swim Team families,

The season has started! We had a great turn out for our first day. Dryland is new this year and is being offered M - W. The schedule is posted under the fall swim info page on the website. Dryland is optional, but a great addition to the swim program if the schedule works for your athlete(s). Please have your athlete wear tennis shoes for dryland workouts. There will be jumping and exercises where they need shoes that will not slip off their feet. We had a lot of crocs and sandal type shoes yesterday. The athletes also need water bottles. The temperature is high this week and we want to make sure the kids stay hydrated.

This fall will have a large focus on kicking and stroke development. The more often your child makes practice, the faster they will see improvement in their strokes.

Gear needed for practice:

All swimmers need fins, goggles, and a cap if their hair is long enough to cover their face. Please check the fins and make sure they are labeled with your child's name. Everyday there are fins left behind and it makes it really easy to find the owner when they are labeled. Looking at the fins yesterday, some are really faded from the sun and chlorine over the summer.

Pre-Team and White Group: no other gear needed.

Red Group:

Optional for swimmers 9 and up:  Paddles. We suggest either XS Finis Agility Paddles   Amazon.com : FINIS Agility Floating Swim Paddles - Strapless Design for Stroke Technique - Instant Feedback - Large : Sports & Outdoors

or Arena Fingertip Paddles Amazon.com : Arena Unisex Adult Elite Finger Swimming Paddle for Men and Women Pool Exercise Equipment for Swimming and Technique Training, Black/Silver, Small : Bowling Apparel : Sports & Outdoors

Again, please mark with their name so they don't get mixed up or left behind.

Blue Group:

Paddles are required, any of the above options will work. Sizing for Finis Agility Paddles: XS hand circumference of 7 or less in, S 7-8 in, M 8-9 in. None of our swimmers should be using a L.

They also need a snorkel. Amazon.com : TYR Ultralite 2.0 Swim Snorkel - Adult Snorkeling Gear for Swimming Training - Lightweight and Comfortable for Body Alignment Exercises - Black : Sports & Outdoors This is a good one, but any snorkel for lap swimming will work. It needs to have a strap to hold it to their head. Please do not send them with a snorkel for the side of their head used to look for fish. It won't work properly for them.

I suggest that all Red and Blue Group swimmers get a mesh bag to hold their gear. It will help them keep track of their equipment and keep it from getting stepped on or broken. Something like this would be great. They can take it to the pool edge, it is meant to get wet, and it will keep their gear all in one place. We had some issues with gear getting mixed up during summer practice. Amazon.com: Speedo Unisex-Adult Deluxe Ventilator Mesh Equipment Bag : Sports & Outdoors

JRB Hosted Swim Meets

This fall we will host three meets at our club and will invite a few other Rec Swim Clubs to join us. There are no fees to attend these meets, but we will need parents to volunteer to run the meet. You will sign them up and pick their events on the team website once the events are open for entering.

Here are the dates:

The September Splash - Saturday 9/19 9am meet start - this meet is open on our website. Please have your athlete pick up to four events they would like to swim.

The Great Pumpkin Meet - Saturday October 31st, 9AM meet start

Barracuda Distance Meet - Saturday November 14th, 9am meet start

Parent Volunteering

We are looking for parents who might wish to become a meet announcer. Do you like to play music, want a front row seat to the pool, and wish to be a huge help to the team? We could really use a couple parents who would love to become Barracuda Announcers. Please reach out to Nick Sweetnam at [email protected] if you are interested. We also need Stroke and Turn officials. The visiting teams will help with the timing duties, but we need a lot of help in the set-up and take down of the meet. Please volunteer for those positions. Thank you so much for making these fall meets happen for our kids! They love race day and are going to be working so hard to see all of their improvements.

USA Meet Entry

We will be entering as SNUN, Sierra Nevada unattached.

Here is the link to Fast Swims, it is where you will register your swimmer for the meets. FastSwims As of right now, only the SpookTacular is open.

You will need to sign them up with USA swimming first, then create an account on Fastswims, then enter them in the SpookTacular. Again, please do not wait or your swimmer will more than likely miss out on participating in this meet.

Once you enter your athlete in a meet, please forward the event confirmation to [email protected]. That way we know which swimmers are participating in the meet.

Some parents have experienced issues trying to enter their swimmers in the meet. We have found that it helps to log out after creating the account and then log back in to enter your swimmer it works.

Please send me an email if you have any questions.
