JRSC Fall Swim Update: Record turnout, Fall meet options, and what to expect
Hello JRSC Fall Swim Families!
Thank you for registering for the JRSC Fall Swim. Practices are underway & we have a record 100 swimmers in Fall Swim this year! We're staffed up with our seasoned coaches Dave, Katie, Joan, & Rosie who are on deck and are already seeing progress in the pool!
I've spoken with parents from most of the Fall Swim families already and am happy the program we're providing meets your needs for our extended Fall Swim program. While a majority of the kids registered are solely interested in conditioning & maintenance during the Summer Season's "Off-Season", we still encourage racing during the Fall to see and measure the progress kids are making month to month & season to season.
We have collaborated with other Fall Swim programs in the area to provide several competitive meets over the next few months.
JRSC Fall Swim Competition Schedule:
1) Saturday, September 27th | Gold River's September Splash (Away)
Registration OPEN2) Saturday, October 25th | JRSC Great Pumpkin Meet (Home)
Registration OPEN3) Saturday, November 15th | Barracuda Distance Challenge (Home)
Registration OPEN for declarations
Note: there will be parent volunteer requirements for families with swimmers competing in meets.
A few important updates:
- USA Swimming affiliation: Despite our best efforts to renew a Fall Swim affiliation with STAS/STARS, the Rio Coach has declined to continue the offering to STSC affiliated teams, so it didn’t come together for this Fall. As a reminder, our club isn’t structured or staffed to run a USA Swimming program on our own and it is not something we plan on pursuing at this point.
- Our focus: JRSC (Barracudas + Fall Swim) will continue to center on Summer Recreational swimming. For Fall Swim, we’ll keep building skills and conditioning with longer workout times & 5 day practice weeks during the sessions—and for kids who want a little more than training—we’re coordinating swim meets with other teams in similar situations. These meets will include our usual Rec Swim events plus some longer-distance options for those looking for additional variety and/or challenges.
- We understand there may be families disappointed that we do not offer a USA Swimming affiliation and/or USA Swimming meet participation, but it has become clear over the years that can not be all things to all people, and that is ok. We will however, continue to provide the best program possible to support the needs of the JR Barracudas families as a whole and the STSC/JRSC organization.
- If your swimmer wants to compete in USA meets: We fully support those goals! The best options are to either join a USA Swimming club for the Fall/Winter, or register for USA Swimming meets as “unattached.” Our coaches aren't committed to staffing USA meets, we'll be cheering for your athletes either way.
What's Next?
We’d love for every swimmer to develop & improve this Fall! To help that process, talk to your swimmers about registering for some meets, setting simple goals (a cleaner turn, a stronger start, faster time, or a new distance), and celebrate the effort as much as the time on the clock. Even if your swimmer is not planning on racing, keep coming to practice, and let our coaches know how we can support your swimmer’s goals this Fall. Either way, please have your kids communicate with the Coaches about their goals & plans, so they can help set them up for success!
As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
