Social/Spirit Event
Swimmer of the week (starting 04/04)
Each week we
will be awarding swimmers with a “swimmer of the week” certificate in each age
group. The swimmer of the week will be announced Friday before the
practice starts in our traditional SpongeBob themed celebration. Parents
will be informed via phone or email prior to Friday to ensure that we have the
swimmer present. Each swimmer will be given a certificate and we will take a
picture that will be posted on the webpage and on the Spirit board in the
hallway of JRRC.
The swimmer of the week will be picked by the coaches based on their
observation. It is the goal that every swimmer will be awarded throughout the
season. Some swimmers however will be awarded via the “Swimmer of the meet”
program. (see below)
Swimmer of the meet (starting 05/31)
Similar to the
swimmer of the week we will be awarding a “swimmer of the meet” for each age
group. This award will be given out on Monday at the swim practice. The swimmer
of the meet will be based on the performance during the swim meet that Saturday.
It can be based on overall success or based on outstanding personal improvement.
This choice will be up to the coaches as well.
Personal best program (starting 05/31)
During every
swim meet we will be celebrating every swimmer’s new personal best times.
We will have our sign up boards at the pool house and encourage the swimmers to
document their success. Don’t forget to ring the cowbell :-)
Part of this
program is the “bead-program”
Bead program (starting 05/31)
Every swimmer
will be given a lanyard in the beginning of the swim season that can be clipped
to their swim bag. During the season we will be giving out plastic beads for
personal achievement in various

Swim Buddies (starting 05/01)
Most of the
returning swimmers remember the fun they have with their swim buddies. We will
of course have a swim buddy program again this year.
This year we will be changing the format a little bit and will have buddy
groups. Each buddy group will have kids from all different age groups. Watch out
for more info at our kickoff party.
Top 10 times (starting 05/10)
We will be
posting the top 10 times for every event after each swim meet
on our webpage. This list will be updated after each swim meet.
Meet of Champion qualification times
(starting 05/10)
At the end of
the swim season all clubs in this area (not only the ones from our league) are
participating in a special swim meet for champions. It will be held this year in
Roseville at the Aquatic Center on August 2/3.
This is an
invitation only meet and swimmers can qualify for it in two different ways:
1. Swimmer
meets the qualifying time during any of the swim meets. The qualifying times
will be posted as soon as we have them on our webpage.
2. Swimmers
who finish in the top 10 at our championship in Woodland (July 27/28) also
qualify for the Meet of champions.
Participation
in this event is an honor and a great way of recognizing our best swimmers. It
will give everyone the chance to compete against the best swimmers in the
greater Sacramento area from various clubs/leagues. We encourage to keep an eye
on qualifying times and keep that August 2/3 weekend open since we would like to
see the Barracudas strong in numbers
and fast swim times participating. Based on the swim results our team has a
chance to be given awards and a ranking.
High point leaders (starting 05/31)
During our
dual swim meets and our championship points will be given to the fastest
swimmers in each event. The sum of the points will determine the team winner for
the meet. We will be awarding the swimmer in each age group with the highest
points at our year end celebration. A listing of high points will be maintained
and on the webpage. Only points in individual races will be added up here (no
relay points).
New Family Orientation (April 25 during
TGIF)
We are
inviting all new families to meet us at the pool deck at 7pm. We will have some
experienced families out there and we will hopefully be able to answer all your
questions regarding the swim season. We will cover all topic from practice
schedule, swim meet preparation, league questions, etc. This evening is open to
all families (old and new) who would like to meet each other and make some new
friends.

More to come ….
Swim meet activities (starting 05/31)
· Welcome poster for the visiting team. Our swimmers will
be creating a poster before the swim meet that we will post at the entrance to
welcome our guests
· We want to see lots of cheering and support during the
swim meets. Wait till you see the younger swimmers cheer for the older freestyle
relays at the end of every meet. That itself makes us special.
Donuts in the morning (first day of
summer practice)
There will be
donuts for all swimmers on our first day of summer practice.
Age Group Activities
There will be a fun group activity for each of the age groups outside of Johnson
Ranch. This is great opportunity for the kids to meet and mingle with other kids
in their age group. The activities are listed on the calendar and reminder
flyers will be placed in the kids files prior to each event.
Kick Off Party (May 1st)
The kick off party is just that. It is a fun party to celebrate the start of the
swim season. There will be games, music and food for the kids and families. The
date will be posted on the calendar and all are encouraged to attend. This year
we will be combining the swim a thon with the kick off party.
Barracuda Family Fun Night
This was formerly known as “Family Relay Night” and will be done a bit different
this year. Parents and siblings of swimmers are welcome to join in on the games
or can simply cheer on from the side lines. There will be fun relays and
activities for all age groups. This will be an event not to miss. More info to
come and date is listed on calendar.
TGIF at the pool (every Friday
afternoon/evening)
This is a new thing we are starting this year. The first
TGIF will start on Friday April 18th
and last until school is out and practices move to AM. Families can bring
snacks, dinner, and beverages of choice to their swimmers practice and stay
after to celebrate the end of a work week. The kids enjoy their picnic and
swimming while the adults enjoy the end of the week.
End of season party
This is a highlight evening for all the swimmers to be recognized for all their
effort and team spirit through out the season. It is also a night to thank our
wonderful coaches for all their time and dedication. The swimmers always enjoy
receiving their awards and applauding the coaching staff.
