WELCOME!

I hope the following information helps you answer some of the questions that you may have with regard to volunteer positions.  I have included a brief summary of the jobs and you can find more detailed descriptions in the Parent Handbook located on the JRRC Barracuda website here.

If you are interested in taking on a different role we have some OPEN coordinator positions available.  A coordinator position fulfills your 5 shift requirement for the season.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

2008

Please sign-up for 5 shifts

Starters

The starters are responsible for starting each event and for maintaining the starting device and starter’s bullhorn in good working order.  Starters must be familiar with the proper way to start each event and for actions that require disqualifications.

Announcer

Uses microphone to call swimmers to ready bench, blocks, announcing the score of the meets and other miscellaneous announcements throughout the meet.

Stroke and Turn Judges

Ensures that the rules for each stroke, including starts, turns and finishes are being followed.  (training required)

Timers

Each lane has three timers which operate timing plungers or stop watches depending upon timing method being used.

Head Timer

The head timer is responsible for maintaining the club’s stopwatches in good working order, having them at each meet, and collecting them after each meet.

Runners

Collects the lane writer sheets and the disqualification sheets from lane writers (timers) and stroke and turn judges.  Delivers sheets to scorekeepers

Ribbon Operations

Places ribbon labels generated by computer on appropriate place ribbon.  Places ribbons in swimmers folder.

Ready Bench

Using master meet program, arranges swimmers in proper lane and event/heat order at ready bench area.  Takes swimmers to lanes and lane chairs.  Manages the queuing process of swimmers for heats and events.  Works with team parents and starter to coordinate the timing of moving swimmers through the process.

Set-up/Take Down

The set-up/take-down parents are responsible for setting up the pool for all home meets and putting all the equipment away after each meet.  Re-arranges deck for regular club usage.

Age Group Parents

For every age group, separate for male and female, we need two parents to be responsible for the swimmers of said group and to get the swimmers to the ready bench in a timely manner.  The parents will also be responsible for identifying an age group area.  Age group parents will also hand out relay cards to parents so the swimmers can be escorted to their lane.    When not performing these assignments the age group parent will remain in their age group area to attend to questions, concerns and needs of swimmers and parents.

Hospitality

Manages the preparation and delivery of snacks and drinks to parent volunteers and coaches of both teams.

Apparel Sales

Responsible for selling Barracuda wear during home meets.   Will need to set-up and put away clothing.  Shift begins @ 7:30 am.

Float

Each family may only sign-up for ONE float position for the season.  You may be called to work one shift of ANY position (that you are qualified for) should we find that a position is not filled.
