Message from the Board

Though most of us were not around, nearly 10 years ago the Barracudas did away with the Age Group Tents and Team Moms.  Over the past couple of years we’ve tip-toed around the idea reinstating that process, but never quite dove in.  At the strong request of our coaches this year we plan to do so.  By doing so, we expect to eliminate our swimmers missing races, no longer have APBs put out for relays, end the gang of Barracuda parents crowding around the Ready Bench, and to allow Barracuda parents to relax, enjoy the meet, and do their volunteer jobs without wondering where their child is or where their child should be.

Here’s how it’s to work.

·         At home meets, the grass area behind the blocks will be cordoned off for our Age Group Tents.

·         At away meets, we’ll have pre-defined areas for our Age Group Tents of which will be clearly marked and separate of family tents.

·         There will be an age-group tent for each gender of the following age groups: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12.

·         Each family will be assigned at least one meet to bring one of the following:  Fruit, Flavored Drinks (non-carbonated and less sugar please), Water, chip snacks, pastries, cards, games, and toys.

·         Each swimmer should bring their own blanket, sleeping bag, pillow, etc. as they see fit.

·         Age Group Parents will be the first  “non-meet officialý to receive copies of the events for the meet following “scratchý.

·         Age Group Parents will escort swimmers to the Ready Bench prior to their event and will also ensure the relays are gathered and ready.

·         In the Age Group Tent there will be a board with names of each swimmer and their event, heat, and lane number.

·         Each swimmer MUST be in the Age Group Tent no later than 2 events before their event.

·         Family tents will not be allowed in the Age Group area.

·         Swimmers can bring additional snacks, toys, and games if they wish.

We are also setting up opportunities to have our 13-18 swimmers engage with the younger swimmers to make for a more rewarding experience and interaction for everyone.  With this we expect to support our coaches better by not having them walk the grounds searching for a swimmer, support our swimmers by allowing them to focus and prepare with less people and distractions at the ready bench, and to be good sports by not delaying or interfering with the course of a meet.  For this we need your cooperation, participation, and thoughtful suggestions for improvement.  Please help our Age Group Coordinator, Gina Sheehan in making this a successful endeavor.

Please direct all questions, concerns, and otherwise to the Barracuda Board.  Thanks in advance for your help with making this successful.
